At The Playroom, we nurture children’s early development by making sure every day is an immersive journey, where children are seen, celebrated, and encouraged to grow naturally across all areas of learning.
Here’s how we weave the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Development Matters and Birth to 5 Matters into our daily rhythm
Children gather together each day to share stories, songs, feelings, and news. Through circle time, they develop confidence, empathy, a sense of belonging, and the social skills to thrive in relationships with others.
Movement is at the heart of growing bodies and minds! Indoors and outdoors, we offer playful opportunities for running, climbing, balancing, dancing, and fine motor activities to strengthen coordination, self-care skills, and joyful physical expression.
Through storytelling, mark-making, and early writing experiences, we help children to develop a love of language. We encourage expression through conversation, role-play, story creation, and early literacy practices that make communication magical. We have a range of Story Sacks which we compile with the children.
Every child is an artist, a musician, a dreamer. Our environment is rich in creative opportunities: painting, crafting, singing, playing instruments, and exploring diverse cultural traditions.
From planting seeds to investigating mini-beasts, from exploring water play to simple experiments, children are natural scientists. We foster awe and wonder through hands-on exploration, helping them build early understanding of nature, technology, and the world around them.

Mathematics at The Playroom
At The Playroom, Mathematics is woven naturally through the children's daily exploration, play, and discovery.
We follow the spirit of the EYFS 2025 and Birth to Five Matters by focusing on deep understanding, joyful interaction, and meaningful problem-solving rather than rote learning.
We nurture children's mathematical thinking by:
Embedding number sense into everyday life; through games, cooking, gardening, and conversations.
Encouraging pattern spotting; in nature, in music, in movement, and in artwork.
Supporting early spatial reasoning; through construction play, block building, map-making, and storytelling.
Exploring measurement and comparison; with natural objects (stones, sticks, water, sand) and open-ended materials.
Creating real-life contexts for problem-solving; such as sharing snacks, organising play spaces, or planning adventures outdoors.
Children are not rushed.
Instead, we trust their innate mathematical curiosity, offering rich invitations to explore concepts like more/less, bigger/smaller, before/after, heavier/lighter, near/far, symmetry, and rhythm.
